Wild Place Project: Zebra foal dies after injury playing

Wild Place Project has paid tribute to a zebra foal which died after suffering severe injuries while playing.
Wallace was born only last month and was one of three zebras at the conservation project, alongside his mother Florence, and father, Peter.

Hide AdBut the young foal sustained injuries after hitting a gate while playing, on Tuesday, May 10.
And despite the best efforts of the veterinary team, his injuries were severe and he was put to sleep.
Wild Place Project is deeply saddened to share the news that Wallace, one of three zebras, has had to be put to sleep.
Brian Zimmerman, director of conservation and science, said: “In such a short time, Wallace had found his way into the hearts of so many.

Hide Ad“We are all deeply upset by the accident; his arrival was eagerly anticipated and he has brought so much joy to the team and to our visitors.”
Wallace was a plains zebra, which is classified as Near Threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. Their numbers are in decline in their native Africa due to hunting and loss of habitat.
