The Met Office has issued Bristol with a yellow weather warning for ice, as temperatures plummet even further, with the next few days expected to be bitterly cold.

The city is still in shock after Storm Arwen came with a vengeance and battered the majority of the UK with winds that maxed out at 80mph.

Yellow and orange weather warnings were placed around the UK, with Newcastle becoming the first place in five years to receive a red weather warning.

Here’s what the Met Office says for the next couple of days of the week, and the weekend.

Thursday: “A frosty start with a risk of ice in the east and some showers. Becoming dry and bright, but still feeling chilly. Much cloudier by the evening with rain overnight. Maximum temperature 7 °C.”

For Friday and the weekend: “A mild but damp start on Friday, turning colder by the end of the day. Unsettled on Saturday with blustery showers, wintry over high ground. Drier and calmer on Sunday.”

The weather warning comes into action from midnight, lasting for 10 hours.

Here’s what you can expect:

- Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

- Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

- Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

Also follow the Met Office for great advice, such as how to drive when driving on roads that may be covered in ice.
