We visit the hidden gem Bristol nature reserve with breathtaking views and friendly goats

The hidden gem that is Hengrove Mounds is a wildlife haven but used to be a landfill site

Located near a former airfield in south Bristol is the hidden gem that is Hengrove Mounds

A path off Hengrove Park near the play park takes you up to the nature reserve, which has a beautiful view of Dundry Hill.

From the late 1950s, the area between the busy Hengrove Way and Whitchurch Lane was used as a landfill site and became known as ‘the dumps’.

It is now a wildlife haven full of meadows, grasses, plants and insects - but many local people don’t even know it’s there.

In March 2023, goats were added to the nature reserve to maintain the scrubland, making the space even more delightful to visit.
