A well-used play park in south Bristol has new opening hours. Hengrove Play Park, which is managed by Bristol City Council, is now open seven days a week.

Local councillor Tim Kent said he is 'delighted' by the news, saying the park is also due to receive £300,000 in improvements this year.

Speaking on behalf of the Hengrove and Whitchurch Park Lib Dem group, he said: "Andrew, Sarah and I are delighted to see that the park is to be used more and we are also looking forward to seeing improvements in the facilities this year. It is well used by the whole of the community."

The council also spent money on the park's 12-metre high dome last year, carrying out repair work to make the facility safe again.

The park, which also includes a cafe, is open 10am daily, except Thursday and Sunday when it opens for settling sessions with restricted access from 9.30 to 10.30am. The dome opens at 11am.

It closes at 4pm from November to January, 5pm in February, March and October, and 6pm from April to September.

The play park is on the edge of Hengrove Leisure Park, where a bingo hall announced closure plans on Tuesday (January 2) ahead of a proposed 350-home development.
