Two takeaways in Bedminster have been told to make major improvements after being given the worst possible hygiene rating.

Havana’s Burgers and Shakes, in Cannon Street, and Chicken World, in Bedminster Road, were both given zero-star hygiene ratings after inspections in November 6.

At Havana’s, which also has a sister branch in Fishponds, inspectors from Bristol City Council said major improvement was needed in structural compliance, which includes cleanliness, layout and lighting of business.

Inspectors also found a poor appreciation of control measures.

And they said improvement was required on the handling of food.

At Chicken World, inspectors said ‘urgent improvement’ was needed in food hygiene and safety and structural compliance.

Major improvement was also required in the ‘management of food safety’, which looks at system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.

Detailed reports from zero-star inspections are not normally released on request due to possible legal action against the establishments.

The ratings are submitted to the Food Standards Agency, which then publishes them on its website.

Both takeaways have been approached for comment.
