A truck driver swerved to ‘avoid a cat’ before hitting a house in Barrs Court. Fortunately, no-one was hurt when the vehicle veered off the road and into the semi-detached home in Causley Drive on Thursday (March 23) at 4.45pm.

Today, four days on from the crash, the truck is still located in the property’s front garden and appears connected to the front of the house.

The vehicle belongs to gardening company The Garden Saint. Owner Matt Williams said one of his employees was driving the vehicle. He said: “He just tried to avoid a cat and the vehicle came off the road before sliding down the garden - it’s not like it’s crashed into the house.

“No-one was hurt and it’s all being sorted.”

He added that he was waiting on a structural engineer from his insurance company before the vehicle would be moved away. “Hopefully today,” he said.

Pictures of the incident were shared on social media. It’s unclear how badly damaged the home was, although South Gloucestershire Council has said the property is not considered to be in danger of collapsing.

A spokesperson said: “Our out of hours Building Control Surveyor was called to an incident at Barrs Court in which a vehicle had crashed into a residential property.

“Following an assessment of the damage, the owner of the property and Police were informed that the building was not considered in danger of collapse and further public protection measures were not required. It is the responsibility of the relevant insurance companies to arrange for the removal of the vehicle and repairs to the building.”

Avon and Somerset Police also attended. A spokesperson said: “We were called at 4.45pm on Thursday 23 March following a report of a vehicle colliding with a property. There were no injuries.”

The incident happened several months after a much more serious incident involving a bus hitting a house in Bishopsworth. Despite three people being in the house, no-one was injured - although the family had to move out.
