Plummers Hill Open Space may not be as well known as other east Bristol parks such as St George, Eastville or Page Park in Staple Hill, but it is certainly up there when it comes to hidden gems.
Between Whitehall and Speedwell, this small park is framed by houses and allotments and unless you happen to live in the area, it’s quite likely that you won’t even find it.
Popular with dog walkers, one of the most surprising things about Plummers Hill Open Space is the fact it has a small ‘secret’ football pitch concealed behind hedges.
But the focal point of this peaceful park is an ornate bench carved from a single oak tree trunk. The bench is a poignant memorial for Becky Watts, the St George schoolgirl brutally murdered by her stepbrother in 2015.
The bench was created by sculptor Andy O’Neill with input from Becky’s family and the design reflects Becky’s love of dogs and unicorns.
