The richest people in the South West have been revealed in the Sunday Times Rich List 2023, which is published in full this Sunday. The new edition’s South West top five features three people from the Bristol region.
The list charts the wealth of the 350 richest people in the UK and is based on identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, or significant shares in publicly quoted companies.
5. Peter Hargreaves - Ranked fourth in the South West
Peter Hargreaves wealth is estimated at £1.865 billion, down £203m from last year. He is a financial services businessman who co-founded Hargreaves Lansdown with Stephen Lansdown. In 2014, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year Honours for services to business innovation, financial services in Bristol.
6. Steve Lansdown- - Ranked fifth in the South West
The co-founder of Hargreaves Lansdown and founder of Bristol Sport has wealth estimated at £1.179 billion , down £58 million from last year. He went to Thornbury Grammar School and trained as an accountant before starting Hargreaves Lansdown trading from a bedroom in 1981. In 2009, he sold off a stake and put money toward Bristol City’s stadium. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to business and the community in Bristol.
