Plans have been lodged to build six homes on gardens behind a row of shops in Mangotsfield.

Action Homes Limited wanted to pull down two semi-detached properties off St James Place, and build four three-bedroom and two four-bedroom houses on the large gardens.

Parking for the homes along with an access route to St James Place car park would go down where the existing properties are located.

Pedestian access to the new homes would follow the private cut-through next to Halo hair and beauty. A Tesco Express and a fish bar are also located on the row of shops.

In the planning application submitted to South Gloucestershire Council, planning agents Dexter Building Design said the new homes would be an effective use of land already in residential use.

It added that it would take ‘the pressure away’ from the local authority in providing homes in less suitable locations such as Green Belt land.

In conclusion, the agent said: “The scheme represents sustainable development in an appropriate location where provision of additional residential development is supported in principle.”

As part of the plan, there would be 13 off-street car parking spaces along with bin and bike storage facilities for each home

The council will make a decision in the coming months.
