8 wonderful pictures of the first ever community balloon launch in south Bristol

It was an afternoon to remember at Redcatch Park in Knowle

As the sun shone down on south Bristol, five balloons went up into the afternoon sky as part of the first ever Balloon Launch at Redcatch Park in Knowle. The event, which took place yesterday, was organised by Friends of Redcatch Park (FoRP), a group of volunteers who look after the park.

Hundreds turned up for the free event, which also featured food, cold drinks and ice cream. These pictures show the balloons taking off in front of the crowds, and how far they travelled with one person sending us a picture from Chepstow.

The location was the centre of a campaign recently to stop the planned redevelopment of the Broadwalk Shopping Centre. But yesterday, it was a different picture, as these brilliant pictures show:
