A popular store in a Bristol shopping centre is to remain closed for the 'foreseeable future'.

The YMCA charity shop in The Galleries Shopping Centre is currently shut.

Youth charity YMCA has now confirmed the reasons for the closure to BristolWorld.

A spokeswoman said: "The closure is due to staffing issues and will continue until a team is hired, which the retail department is currently working hard to do."

Since February 19 this year, the charity shop has been recruiting two new assistant store managers.

The YMCA Broadmead store, which opened in The Galleries in 2022, offers items from clothing and homeware to electrical and furniture goods.

It is part of youth charity YMCA, with money raised at the store going towards supporting young people.

The temporary closure of the store in The Galleries comes amid an uncertain future for the shopping centre.

There are plans to demolish the centre and replace it with student housing, offices, a hotel, shops and a 28-storey apartment tower.

The plans, which are due to be submitted this spring, could see construction start next year and take two years to complete.

The planned development has already saw other stores close permanently in The Galleries, including toy shop The Entertainer and fashion brand Jack Wills.
