The actor may have been born in Nuneaton, but Michelle Terry was raised in Kewstoke and went to Priory Community School and Broadoak Sixth Form Centre. She went on to the National Youth Theatre and made her professional debut in the West End production Blithe Spirit. She starred in Hamlet and Macbeth - both in 2018. On our television screens, she co-wrote The Cafe with Ralf Little, which aired from 2011-13, and was set in Weston.
6. Staff Sergeant Kim Hughes - George Cross holder
Weston-super-Mare raised Staff Sergeant Kim Hughes is a hero. During his deplyoment in Afghanistan he risked his life to save others by defusing bombs manually. His actions were described as the single most outstanding act of explosive ordnance disposal ever recorded in Afghanistan. He moved to Telford for his secondary education, and joined the army aged 16.
7. Peter Trego - cricketer
Peter Trego was born in Weston in 1981 and attended Wyvern Comprehensive School. He made his first-class debut for Somerset in 2000 before a long county cricket career before retirement in 2021. He also played football for Weston-super-Mare FC, Bath City and Clevedon Townas a goalkeeper
8. John Cleese - actor
First name who will come to many people’s minds, John Cleese, of course. The Fawlty Towers actor was born in Weston and went to St Peter’s Preparatory School . He went on to Clifton College and then Cambridge University. He found fame with Monty Python before taking on the neurotic hotel manager role of Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers.
