Kate Garraway has rushed to Carol Vorderman’s defence after her Good Morning Britain co-star made a ‘savage’ dig at the I’m A Celebrity star on Thursday. Kate and Ben Shephard were joined by Richard to discuss Carol going on Instagram live after each episode of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa.

Richard Arnold mocked that the former Countdown host clearly “did her own makeup” for the videos. Kate was quick to react and defended Carol, saying: “Ouch! How rude!".

After being scolded by Kate, Richard revealed he was making a jokey comment about Carol and that she was a close friend who he had recently gone for dinner with. He also gushed about her laugh and said she should be in the Loose Women audience in the front row because of her funny giggle.

ITV’s I’m A Celebrity recently returned to screens with a new spin-off show which was filmed last year in South Africa. The lineup includes Shaun Ryder, Amir Khan, Jordan Banjo, Phil Tufnell and Carol Vorderman. Countdown legend, Carol, has made a habit of heading over to her Instagram once the episodes have finished to give a rundown of what happened but didn’t expect this savage criticism from Richard.

The barefaced star explained on her recent Instagram Live that although she lives in Bristol, she is currently staying with a friend in London and they watch the trials she endured together. She said: “I have cried laughing and I hope you have too”. She also admitted that her friend, Jules, who was also watching the show“actually had to get up and retch” after watching one of the show’s infamous trials.

She went on to describe the picnic, which included a fruit platter, fresh lemonade and sandwiches, that her team had won and said  “not a single crumb was left behind”. The celebrities, who had been living on a diet of rice and beans for over 10 days, demolished the feast within minutes.

She described former Corrie star, Helen Flanagan as an “evil genius” because the mother of three told her group to lie to their rivals and downplay how good their treat was so they would be less motivated in the next task. Carol Vorderman was shocked at her cunning ways and added: “Helen, innocent meerkat, satanic meerkat angel, genius”.
