Dozens of pubs across Bristol have closed over recent decades, many of which bring back happy times of a misspent youth or a sense of community and belonging.
In this collection of images, we’ve pulled together old photographs from Know Your Area covering all four corners of Bristol, and part of South Gloucestershire. We hope they either remind you of old times, or raise interest in the history of buildings or development where not a trace of a pub can now be seen.

1. The English Rose in Lawrence Weston
The pub in Broadlands Drive closed, and then was pulled down in 1998 to be replaced with apartments (Credit: Know Your Place)
2. Greyhound Inn in Oldland Common
Located on West Street, the pub was among several in the area which, like The Railway Inn, The Rising Sun, The Old Barge and The Railway Tavern, were all lost during the 50s and 60s (Credit: Know Your Place)
3. Gatcombe House, Hartcliffe

4. Fulford House, Hartcliffe
Described as a ‘no nonsense locals’ pub’, this pub in Fulford Road has now closed and is set to be converted into a shared home after plans were approved earlier this year (Credit: Courage Brewery Archive)
