Mutilated greyhound discovered dumped down a drain - RSPCA urgent appeal

A mutilated male dog was found dumped down a drain near Bristol, triggering an investigation by the RSPCA. The charity described the discovery as ‘upsetting and distressing’.
The dead greyhound was spotted near to the London to Bristol railway line off Box Hedge Lane in Coalpit Heath on New Year’s Eve. A member of the public immeditaely contacted the RSPCA.

Hide AdThe charity believes the ears could have been removed as tattoos on them would have identified the owner.
RSPCA inspector Kim Walters, who is investigating, said: “This was an upsetting and distressing discovery. While at this stage we cannot say for certain how he died, it is concerning that he had been dumped down a drain after having his tail and ears removed.
“We suspect his ears were removed because they were tattooed and would have identified the owner.
“Unfortunately, his microchip is unregistered but we’re trying to find out more information on the breeder to help establish who owned this dog.
