A Bristol nightclub has said it is ‘horrified’ after a customer has their drink spiked.

Mr Wolf’s, in St Nicholas Street, had increased security and introduced extra searches on entry in a bid to tackle the nationwide issue highlighted by dozens of national cases over the past month.

But on Thursday, the popular city centre said in a statement that it had been made aware of “some reports” of drink spiking at the venue.

It added: “We are horrified to learn that one of our customers had this experience and would like to reassure our customers that we take these matters very seriously.

“As a family run venue, we really do care what happens in our venue.

“We urge anybody visiting the venue to report any incident or any suspicions to a member of staff straight away – we have been trained to respond to this and will always work with police to apprehend perpetrators.”

The club supports a city-wide campaign against drink-spiking called Bristol Nights Stop Spiking, run by Avon and Somerset Police and Bristol City Council in partnership with clubs.

It said it had testing kits available for anyone who suspected their drink had been spiked as well as first aiders on site in case medical help is required.

It added that all staff members were trained to tackle drink spiking, and that the security team had been increased while extra searches were being done on entry.

The statement continued: “If anybody is making you feel uncomfortable or acting suspiciously inside our venue please tell us.

“We will deal with the matter swiftly and discreetly – and you will be believed.”

Back in September, two men were arrested after a woman’s drink was allegedly spiked at Pryzm night club in the Harbourside area.

In October, students carried out a boycott of nightclubs in the city as part of a movement called Girls Night In to raise awareness of the issue.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council said there had been 198 confirmed reports of drink spiking across Great Britain in September and October.

Avon and Somerset Police said it is working with venues to tackle issue.
