The team behind a Bristol restaurant listed in the Michelin Guide is opening a second restaurant nearby.

Since 2017, Tare at Cargo 2 in Wapping Wharf has been one of the city’s premier dining venues and now owner Matt Hampshire is launching a second restaurant a few doors down.

Tare Bistro will replace what was Picole, a wine and food bar that opened at the end of 2022 where Woky Ko had been previously.

Picole was run by Tare’s manager Davey Alford, but the team has now decided to turn the site into the new Tare Bistro.

Davey says Tare Bistro will “remain true to the quality and values that have defined Tare from the very beginning, whilst offering a dining experience at an accessible price point”.

The expanded menu features a blend of newly developed dishes and old favourites, taking inspiration from the best local producers and suppliers, paired with an extensive selection of carefully chosen wines.

Dishes on the launch menu include confit duck leg terrine, quince chutney, chicory salad; steamed Fowey mussels, leek, cider, thyme, and spiced Cornish lamb sausage, hispi cabbage, lentils.

“Our journey began in 2017 and we are immensely proud of the reputation we’ve built in the community over the years,” says Matt Hampshire, owner of Tare + Tare Bistro.

“We are excited to continue being an integral part of the Wapping Wharf family and look forward to sharing this exciting new phase with our loyal customers and newcomers alike.”

Tare Bistro opens its doors on Wednesday (October 11) and tables can be booked online.
