Man appears to impersonate a Royal Mail worker during attempted burglary

Police have launched an appeal after a man appearing to impersonate a Royal Mail came to the door of a house at the time of an attempted burglary.

The incident happened at a house in Newbridge Road in St Anne on September 2, between 1pm and 3pm.

Doorbell footage captured a man with an orange high-vis tabard with what appears to be a Royal Mail logo at the front of the house.

At around the same time, a rear door of the property was damaged by someone trying to force entry.

Avon and Somerset Police say they have been unable to identify the man pictured despite enquiries with Royal Mail, who say he is not a member of staff.

The man is described as white, aged between 40 and 50, and stocky with a shaved head.

He also wore a black jacket and facemask.

Officers have been following a number of lines of enquiry with one person arrested and released under investigation.

All Royal Mail employees carry identification which they will show on request.

Anyone who has concerns about someone claiming to be a Royal Mail employee can confirm with the local delivery depot using a number from the phone book or their website.
