Congestion is slowing down journeys on the M5 near Bristol as people take to the roads to return home after the Christmas holiday today (January 2).

Google Maps shows congestion on the northbound side of the motorway at Weston-super-Mare and between Portishead (Junction 17) and Cribbs Causeway (Junction 19).

There also appears to be slow traffic on the M4 eastbound before and after the Almondsbury Interchange.

Those attempting to avoid the disruption on the M5 by taking the A38 from Junction 22 are also facing slow traffic in Winscombe and near Bristol Airport.

This page will be updated as the afternoon goes on.
