M5 southbound traffic: Latest on crash near Bristol

Three lanes on the M5 southbound near Bristol were closed by police after a multi-vehicle crash - resulting in delays of 30 minutes with congestion stretching back five miles. The incident happened between Junction 19 for Gordano Services and Junction 20 for Clevedon at around 3.45pm.

At 5.15pm, Highways England said one lane remained closed for recovery, but there were delays of 35 minutes for motorists.

National Highways tweeted at around 3.45pm: “ UPDATE - Lanes 1 and 2 are now OPEN on the #M5 southbound between J19 #Gordano Services and J20 #Clevedon following a multi vehicle collision. Lane 3 remains closed for recovery and clean up. There are currently delays of 35 mins and approx. 6 miles of congestion.”

The disruption adds to normal Friday evening traffic down the M5 motorway past Bristol.
