Little Amal puppet to walk through Bristol city centre to mark refugee week

A giant puppet of a Syrian refugee child, created to sympolise millions of displaced children, is coming to Bristol next month as part of a second leg of her UK tour.
Little Amal, which is 3.5 metres tall, will come to the city on June 24 as part of a series of activities under a High Streets recovery programme called Love Our High Street which is funded by Bristol City Council.

Hide AdThe puppet will take a tour of the city centre, starting outside Bristol Old Vic in King Street before heading to Welsh Back to St Nicholas Market and then to the Harbour.
The visit will mark refugee week and will feature music and watching perforamnces by local artists. People are invited to come and join the tour.


Bristol Old Vic’s outgoing artistic director Tom Morris said: We are excited to welcome Little Amal to Bristol to meet the community, to see our beautiful city and to find out more about Bristol’s status as a City of Sanctuary.
“Amal travels everywhere with a spirit of curiosity. By welcoming her to Bristol we will also learn from her, understanding more about our own complicated past and our dream of being a fairer and more welcoming city in the future.”

Hide AdThe puppet will also be visiting places like Birmingham and Stonehenge as part of its second leg, following the 8,000 km walk across Europe which provided a focus on the urgent neds of young refugees.
