Investigation launched over huge fire above shop in Marshfield

Several fire crews were called to tackle a blaze above a shop in a village outside Bristol this afternoon (August 31).

Avon Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the house fire in Sheepfair Lane in Marshfield at 11.56am - and continued to receive a number of calls from concerned members of the community as crews battled the blaze.

A total of 16 fire appliances were at the scene of the fire at its height, they included a high turntable ladder, a drone and command unit.

Shortly after 4pm, the fire service said the fire had been put out and that crews were remaining on scene to ensure the properties were safe from further fire.

All people were accounted for and there were no reported injuries.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Further fire investigation will take place when it is safe to do so.

Marshfield is situated on the A420 out of Bristol, past the village of Wick.
