It’s a ‘lazy’ Sunday afternoon but you couldn’t tell in one suburb of Bristol. The main street in the area is a hive of activity.
This is Gloucester Road. The top of Gloucester Road to be exact, where Bishopston becomes Horfield. Earlier this year, the two places were named among the most sought-after areas for home-buyers in the whole country. And it’s not hard to see why.
Horfield is a trendy place with everything on your doorstep, plus excellent bus links for those wanting to go further afield. There also appears to be money judging by the types of independent shops which have sprung up in recent years; a wine bar being one.
And there’s a strong community. Just one look at the filled notice boards with community parties and litterpicking call-ups signals that.
Here are 13 pictures showing life in Horfield:

2. The Anchor
With food and nine screens showing live sport, The Anchor is a popular pub in the area. Out the front there is also a seating area with artificial turf for those wanting to watch the world go by. As we visited, the women’s World Cup final was on, and so attention was focused on the screens indoors. | Alex Ross
3. Public transport
You won’t struggle to get up and down Gloucester Road and Muller Road by public transport. Gloucester Road is one of the main city bus routes with the 76, 75 and 73 among the services. But without a bus lane for large parts of the route, don’t expect a fast journey. | Alex Ross
4. Independent business
