The ‘heartbroken’ owner of a wrap shop described as a Bristol institution has announced it will close due to rising costs. Shake Wrap and Roll has been serving food from near the Arches on Cheltenham Road for more than 12 years, but will close at the end of this month.

The iconic shop is a popular afternoon stop for people in the area and is rated 4.9 stars on Google and 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor - substantial weight to its own claim as being ‘Bristol’s Finest Wrap Shop’.

But in a message shared on Facebook today (November 11), owner Glen Wood said: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I’m announcing that we will be closing for good from the 30th of November.”

Mr Wood said the business was no longer sustainable due to the ‘cost of everything’, having taken on sole ownership seven years ago. He explained his decision and thanked customers for their support.

He said: “I have loved this with all my heart and really hope that you’ve all enjoyed the wraps. Nothing made me happier than someone trying my food and then being super chuffed with how good it is. I want to thank all of our regulars over the last decade plus, you’ve kept me in business and as someone who never thought I’d have my own shop, I can’t thank you enough.

“I genuinely love all of you.I’m honestly heartbroken about having to close, but also have to be realistic. This has been the very best thing I’ve ever done, so come and see me over the next two weeks to get your final wrap fix and chinwag. There will be crying. Massive love to each and everyone of you out there that has enjoyed my food.”

He added: “And to all the staff we’ve had over the years that kept me relatively sane, you all have a special place in heart and I can’t thank you enough. Here’s to the next chapter whatever it brings. Be excellent to each other.”

Within two hours of the posting, dozens of people had commented.

Laura Smith said: “Nooo! SWR is a Bristol institution - you’ll be massively missed.” Beth Robertson said: “Noooo! So sorry to hear this sad news! We’ve enjoyed all our delicious wraps at Sidney and Eden.Best of luck for the future.”

And Rose Garnett said: “Noo ah Glen Wood you are a legend! Super sad news I am sure what ever you do next will be amazing! Lots love! Xxx.”

As reported by Bristol World, many restaurant owners in Bristol are fearing for the future amid soaring energy and food bills. In September, Al’s Tikka Grill in Ashton Gate announced closure, and last month Bomboloni on Gloucester Road also closed down.
