Speaking at the scene, Inspector Tola Munro of Avon & Somerset Police said: “Shortly before 3am this morning, emergency services attended one of the flats on Gatcombe Road following a report a man in his 50s had been injured.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of the ambulance service, the man died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time and they will be supported by specially trained officers.

“A woman in her 40s has been arrested in connection with the man’s death and is currently in police custody. Detectives from the major crime investigation team are working hard to understand the full circumstances of the incident and while the enquiry is at the early stage, we are confident this is an isolated incident between two people known to each other.”
