A community farm has responded to criticism from some parents over the price set for its first ever live lambing experience.

Grimsbury Community Farm in Kingswood says the event will offer people the chance to sit with the farm manager and watch its ewes give birth. The experience begins on Tuesday (March 14), from 5pm to 9pm, and news of it was shared on local Facebook groups by the farm.

However, some parents were unhappy over the £40 charge initially set for people aged 13 and above.

One person wrote: “40 quid! Is this an early April fools joke”. Another said: “Is this a joke? You’re breeding animals for enterainment and charging for it??” And another said: “Wait, £40 to watch something that has to take place anyway so is all profit?! I understand you’re a charity but this is pure greed.”

Others did defend the farm, however. “I want to remind people that Grimsbury Farm is a charity. If you dont like the price move on just dont slate a charity for trying to raise well needed funds,” said one person. “Love this idea. Ignore the negative comments,” said someone else.

The discussion prompted a response from the community farm which has since reduced the cost. A spokesperson said: “Update after listening to people’s feedback we have changed the price to £20 per person this is for people aged 13 and above an must be with an adult.”
