A police helicopter was also called out

Emergency services were called to an incident close to Clifton Suspension Bridge last night (April 2). South Western Ambulance Service, Avon Fire and Rescue Service and Avon and Somerset Police were all present at the incident at about 7.30pm.

Water search teams and a police helicopter were among those at the incident, which was the result of a ‘call with good intent’ said a spokesperson for the police force. This means that an honest report of something turned out not to be the case.

The crews remained at the site until about 8.15pm. The Portway remained open.
