A developer plans to build 91 new homes on the site of a soon-to-be-demolished derelict factory in South Bristol.

Sovereign Network Group’s (SNG) proposals are for the ‘eyesore’ building on Bath Road in Brislington, which BristolWorld first reported on last week.

SNG wants to build 81 apartments and 10 houses at the site, where demolition work is finally set to start at the end of this month or early next month.

The apartments will be organised in three blocks, with heights ranging from two to six.

They will be positioned around a landscaped ‘social spine’ running east to west through the centre of the site.

All the homes will be affordable housing, SNG says, for social rent and shared ownership.

The former Co-Op clothing and tailoring factory closed in 1980 and was later occupied by an office furniture retail business.

More recently, the site is said to have become a prominent eyesore and attracted anti-social behaviour including graffiti, litter and fly-tipping.

SNG, which acquired the building in 2016, had a previous 146-home planning application for the site refused in 2021 and then dismissed on appeal.

It is aiming to submit a planning application for its new proposals in early 2025.

A public consultation on the plans is open until October 14. For more information, visit www.sovereign.org.uk/developing-homes/bath-road
