Firefighters extinguish deliberate fire at Whitchurch Village play area

Fire crews tackled two fires at a village playground in the early hours of this morning (December 19). A crew from Bedminster attended the fires involving rubbish and play equipment at Whitchurch Village Playground off Bristol Road at 1.15am.
The playground is situated on a one acre site and is popular with local families and children. Two years ago it got an upgrade with a multi-use games area added. There are now also picnic benches and equipment for all ages of children.

Hide AdAn Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 1.15am fire crews were called to reports of a rubbish fire at the playground. Crews from Bedminster attended. Two areas of fire involving rubbish and play equipment.
“Crews used a high pressure hose reel to put out the. The cause is thought to be deliberate.”
Today, the park was open and the only evidence of the fires was some burnt-out rubbish.
