Fire in Bristol city centre: 15 people evacuated and public urged to avoid area

A fire broke out in Bristol city centre - with people urged to avoid the area.

A cordon went up in Wine Street where Avon Fire and Rescue said the fire happened, with crews in attendance from Temple, Bedminster and Southmead just before 4pm.

The service said the blaze had impacted a retail property with smoke heavily affecting the ground floor.

Around 15 people in nearby properties were evacuated.

Avon and Somerset Police were also in attendance.

At 4.40pm, the fire service said the fire had gone out and investigations were taking place.

Wine Street is located near Castle Park and runs from Newgate to High Street.
