VIDEO: Dramatic footage shows passerby trying to warn residents of tower block fire in Barton Hill

A fire has broken out at a tower block in Barton Hill, this morning (October 20).

Fire crews were called to Eccleston House, on Aiken Street, shortly after 6am - paramedics were also dispatched. Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed around 9am that the fire had been extinguished.

People are being urged to avoid the area around the flat, with footage from the area showing a large emergency response with several fire engines at the scene.

All 74 flats inside the tower block have been evacuated.

It is believed that no one has been seriously hurt. The fire started on one of the lower floors.

In a statement on Twitter, a spokesperson for the fire service said: “We are currently responding to a fire on Aiken Street, St Philips, Bristol.

“Our [AFRS Control] team received their first call at 06:08 and have taken a large volume of 999 calls since.”
