St George police incident: Three police cars damaged in incident and one person seriously injured

Three police cars have been damaged in an incident in St George which has resulted in a road closure. Police tape has cordoned off The Avenue before the junction with Summerhill Road.

An eyewitness told Bristol World that it involved a police chase involving more than a dozen police vehicles which resulted in the arrest of a person in a vehicle.

At 2pm, a recovery van was taking away a red Volkswagen Golf car from the scene. Two police cars with the front bonnets damaged were also parked on the road.

A police officer was manning the road closure, which also impacts Beaufort Road.

An eyewitness told Bristol World: “I saw so many police cars - they were stopping a car coming out of an alleyway. A person was arrested. They’re now clearing up the damage.”

In a statement, Avon & Somerset Police said: “This morning, officers responded to a report a car had been stolen from an address in St George.

“The driver of the stolen vehicle subsequently rammed a police car while attempting to evade arrest just off Summerhill Road.

“Three police cars were damaged in the incident and a member of the public was also injured. They have since been taken to hospital with injuries which are serious but aren’t believed to be life threatening.

“The driver of the vehicle has been arrested and is currently in police custody. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
