A Ring doorbell camera captured the moment a would-be thief jumped into a woman’s back garden and attempted to steal her hot tub - as she watched the ’scary’ footage from a friend’s house nearby.

Katy Tamlin received a notification of movement in the garden of her Hengrove home on her mobile phone - and then saw the unknown individual cowering next to the £400 outdoor hot tub at the back of the house.

Fortunately, it appears dogs inside her house barked when the man started disconnecting the electrics and he subsequently fled the scene. When Katy returned 10 minutes later, the man had gone.

It comes just two years after an inflatable hot tub was stolen from the 46-year-old’s garden. She’s now taken dismantled her new hot tub and is looking to install better cameras in the gardeto her Gilda Square West home.

She told Bristol World: “I went out at a friend’s nearby when the my phone went off. It happened again and I looked at the mobile and saw a man in my garden. It was a bit scary - I thought ‘how did he get into my garden?’.

“I saw him next to the hot tub, but then he left quickly, probably because the dogs started barking.”

Katy put a message up on her local Facebook group to ask if anyone had seen the man, and to warn others about what happened.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson confirmed the incident had been reported to the Neighbourhood Policing Team for the area.

There have so far been no arrests, they added.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
