Officers were called by a member of the public in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, May 18) after reports that vehicles were on fire on Wooler Road in Weston-Super-Mare, with residents waking up to the sound of ‘explosions’.

Around 14 vehicles were damaged in total, with incidents also reported on Gerard Road, Arundell Road, Upper Church Road, Cecil Road and Kewstoke Road.

A drone is currently scouting the area while police carry out house-to-house enquiries and review CCTV alongside Avon Fire and Rescue in a bid to ‘find the person, or people, responsible’.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At this stage we don’t believe the fires are targeted, and appear to have been carried out indiscriminately.

“Thankfully there have been no reports of injuries.”
