A man was arrested after a disturbance at a pub in Hotwells.

Officers were called to the Merchant Arms, in Merchant Road, on Sunday at around 3pm.

Avon and Somerset Police received a report that a man was causing a disturbance and was being restrained by members of the public.

A 56-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of common assault, threatening to damage property and using threatening words/ behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress.

He was released on police bail as enquiries continue.

The incident happened shortly after Bristol City’s 3-2 win over Millwall at Ashton Gate - although it is understood that the disturbance was not related to crowds attending the game.
