An elderly woman hit by a Royal Mail van in Hanham has sadly died, Avon and Somerset Police have said.

The woman was walking with her trolley when she was struck by a red Royal Mail van in a residential street called Birdwood in Hanham on July 15, at around 1pm.

The driver remained at the scene with the woman until emergency services arrived.

The woman was taken to hospital, but sadly died on Friday (July 22), say police.

A spokesperson said: “We have informed the next of kin and they are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
