A man says he felt sick watching footage of a ‘chancer’ breaking into his car outside his home - and he warned other people to be on their guard.

The 54-year-old engineer, who did not wish to be named, found the inside of his Skoda vehicle ‘ransacked’ after it was broken into on December 27 at 3.10am.

He had left it parked outside his home in Court Road in Kingswood. It appears it was unlocked when the person broke inside before making away with a dash cam and sunglasses.

Footage from the victim’s CCTV cameras showed the man attempting several car doors in the street before getting to his vehicle. The victim told Bristol World: “Watching it I felt a bit sick and fed up. This chancer has got lucky and it’s not nice to see them going inside the car.”

It could have been worse for the victim, who took valuable items out of the car that night. He’s since passed on the footage to police who are investigating.

The theft comes as social media appears to be filled with a high number of posts showing people in the east Bristol area trying car and home doors. Bristol World has published a collection of these images.

The victim said: “I’d obviously tell people to lock their cars and remove any valuables they may have. I’m not sure why we’re seeing this increase in reports at the moment.”
