The owner of a Bristol cafe said he is still in shock after a car crashed into the front door of his business in a ‘hit and run’ just days after Christmas.

Veyis Ayhan, who owns the Crescent Cafe in Westbury-on-Trym, said he was upstairs on Monday (December 27) at about 2.15pm when he heard a ‘massive bang’.

By the time he ran downstairs, the car had fled the scene, leaving a pedestrian injured on the floor outside the High Street cafe and his front door badly damaged.

He said: “Luckily the ambulance arrived within ten minutes and the man was taken to hospital.

“I think he was in a lot of pain, hopefully he will be ok. A crowd had gathered around where it happened.

“I have been told my front door will need to be completely replaced, but the problem is it’s very difficult to get someone to come out and fix it at this time of year.

“It has caused quite a lot of havoc. This is a very busy time of year.”

Mr Ayhan added: “A lot of people have been asking if we’re still open and the answer is yes.”

The injured pedestrian, a 25-year-old man, remains in hospital where he is undergoing treatment, said Avon and Somerset Police.

The force added that a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the incident and is in custody.
