In Bristol, the area’s NHS groups under the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Healthier Together partnership umbrella, are working up a plan to expand the region’s vaccination service in response.

Their challenge is revealed in latest data from NHS England showing an estimated 114,060 boosters had been administered by December 5 - leaving 257,399 still needing the jab, according to population figures from the Office for National Statistics.

It means almost 10,000 people need to be jabbed every day from December 5 to meet the Government target.

The proportion of people still needing the jab in the city (69 per cent) was higher than surrounding areas.
