Clifton Suspension Bridge to close for several hours next week as structure undergoes repair works

The bridge will be closed for six hours next week

Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed to traffic for several hours next Tuesday (March 21) as repair works are carried out on the structure.

A diversion will be in place throughout the allotted time along Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369 Rownham Hill. The route will take drivers into the city’s Clean Air Zone which would typically apply a daily charge ranging from £9 - £100. But, the council has confirmed there will be no charge along the diversion.

A spokesperson said: “Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Tuesday 21 March for maintenance works.

While it’s closed, please follow the diversion along Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369 Rownham Hill. The diversion will take you into Bristol’s Clean Air Zone, but you won’t be charged if you follow the signed diversion route. Pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge and cyclists can dismount and walk across.”
