A Bristol restaurant has been named among the top 100 in the UK by Harden’s. The restaurant guide based its ranking on 30,000 reports submitted by diners on its annual survey.

And Wilson’s in Chandos Road in Redland was included, lying in 87th place. The guide book said: “This small, independent bistro in Redlands is gathering a loyal following, thanks to its seasonal menus (with many of the ingredients gathered, grown or hunted by the owners) and biodynamic wine selection.”

Diners rated the food 5/5, the service 4/5 and the ambiance 3/5. A three-course meal with wine and coffee costs £50, according to the guide.

The popular restaurant already has a Michelin Green Star. Owner Jan Ostle, who opened the restaurant in 2016, told Michelin: “Sustainability is a term often bandied around for marketing purposes but, at Wilsons, we follow a ‘ground-up’ approach where we involve the whole team on the journey and encourage them to challenge our propositions.

“For us, sustainability is a viable economic model which works in our favour.”

Peter Harden, co-founder of Harden’s, said: “The South West is a treasure chest of fantastic produce from both land and sea, along with some of the country’s finest suppliers. Chefs in the area are making full use of such local resources, creating simple menus that champion all the good stuff that’s right there on their doorstep and diners’ appreciation for this is reflected in the hugely positive scores that these restaurants receive.”
