A multi-storey car park in Bristol city centre could be transformed into a 12-store student accommodation
A planning application proposes to redevelop a Bristol city centre car park into a 12-storey student accommodation, addressing the city's need for quality student housing.
A new planning application has been submitted by Downing to redevelop the NCP multi-storey car park and ground-floor commercial units on Nelson Street into a 12-storey Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) with 331 bedrooms across a mix of studios, cluster flats and accessible rooms.
The project would also introduce active round-floor uses and significant public realm improvements to create a more vibrant, welcoming environment for residents and the wider community.
The scheme would help to address Bristol’s growing need for high-quality student accommodation, the project also supports the Council’s ambition for a more sustainable, better-connected city centre.

Martin Fenlon, Associate Projects Director at Downing, said: "Our proposals represent an exciting opportunity to transform an underused site into a high-quality, sustainable development that supports Bristol City Council’s ambitions for the Broadmead area.
“We’ve worked hard to design a scheme that enhances the local townscape, improves connectivity, and delivers much-needed student accommodation while fostering wellbeing and biodiversity. We look forward to continuing to work with the Council and the community as the plans progress.”
The application has been submitted to Bristol City Council for consideration.
