Bristol bus fares to increase - all day tickets & 2-Trip passes to see price rise

Bus fares in Bristol and across the region are to rise on Sunday (July 9) - althought the £2 adult and £1 child single tickets will remain thanks to price cap scheme until 2025.

All day tickets will be hit by a price rise with an adult ticket for the Bath zone rising by 40p to £6 - the same price for an all day ticket in the Bristol zone. In Weston-super-Mare’s zone, the price of an adult day ticket will go up 30p to £3.60.

There’s also going to be a price change in 2-Trip tickets, which allow the ticket-holder to make two trips on the same ticket. In the Bristol and Bath zones, an adult 2-Trip ticket will go up 30p to £3.8, while in Weston it’ll go up 20 pto £3.40.

Across all tickets, student and young person discounts will now typically by 20%, compared to 25% currently.

Meanwhile, the £2 adult and £1 child single tickets will stay capped as part of a joint initiative from the West of England Combined Authority, North Somerset Council and the bus operators, including First Bus. It will remain in place until 2025.

There is also cap on tickets thanks to a Government scheme with many routes across the wider region covered. It means bus users can travel as far as Glastonbury from Bristol on a £2 ticket, as BristolWorld discovered for a feature last month.

Rob Pymm, Commercial Director for First West of England, said: “Our £2 adult and £1 child single tickets remain frozen, and while our 2-Trip fares in Bristol and Bath are increasing, adults will still be paying 50p less than this time last year.

“Like businesses generally, we continue to face significant pressure on our costs, which means we are having to increase our fares to enable continued investment in improving services for our customers.

“In Bristol and Bath, we invested significantly in operating more buses in April, and we have seen improved punctuality as a result. In Weston-super-Mare, our fares remain low compared to elsewhere in the region. We believe our fares represent good value for travelling sustainably at a time when fuel costs and the general cost of living remain high.”
