Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) is hoping to find foster parents or forever homes for the loving dogs in their care. The centre has been supporting Bristol’s furry creatures since 1887 and, due to the cost of living crisis, has reported that more and more pups are being handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them - particularly over the Christmas and New Year period.
From puppies to older dogs, they have plenty of canine companions, hoping to bring a little extra joy to your life. Some dogs are referred to the centre by the RSPCA after having a bad start in life while others are handed over by their former owners for a range of reasons.
Here are 8 pups that Bristol World has selected that the centre hopes can find a forever home in 2023 - can you help? For more information, visit www.bristolarc.org.uk/
1. Mr Fox
This beautiful boy is Mr Fox - a gentle dog who loves cuddles and affection. Sadly, he injured his leg trying to jump over a 6' fence so will need a very secure garden - as he recovers from his injury, he will have to be kept on a lead for the foreseeable future and will need to come back to see the BARC vets weekly for check-ups. Mr Fox is a lovely dog that would be best suited to a quieter home where he can recuperate and have someone at home to keep him company.
2. Meena
Meena arrived at Bristol Animal Rescue Centre with the RSPCA inspectors, distressed and in pain. She’s had regular physio with the Bristol ARC team to gradually get her using the leg again before rehoming. Meena is a very sweet natured dog, very warm and friendly with people and good with all of her vet handling and physio. She has also been described as calm and affectionate. Now that she’s feeling better the centre is starting to see her cheeky personality and believe she definitely wants to be more active and playful.
3. Sadie
Sadie is a beautiful German Shepherd with a warm, friendly disposition. Sadly, she did not have the best start in life and as a consequence will require a female only home. After being brought into BARC via the RSPCA, she is now looking for a home where she can relax and enjoy having lots of company. Sadie is very affectionate, enjoys play time and loves her walks. She is currently building up her muscle strength on walks, so she only goes out for short walks a few times a week. Adopters would need to be understanding of this, and continue this system after she has been adopted. Sadie has had a difficult time, but still has the loveliest personality and brightens everyone's day with her cheeky smile.
4. Baxter
Meet Baxter - this big hunk of love is looking for a new home to call his own. The BARC team describes him as a sensitive soul, despite his size, who can be a little nervous when meeting new people. Baxter is an active dog that enjoys his walks and would prefer to live in a quieter area, without too much hustle and bustle. He loves to play with toys, and is a fun loving chap that will put a smile on your face!
