Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) is hoping to find foster parents or forever homes for the loving dogs in their care. The centre has been supporting Bristol’s furry creatures since 1887 and, due to the cost of living crisis, has reported that more and more pups are being handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them - particularly over the Christmas and New Year period.
From puppies to older dogs, they have plenty of canine companions, hoping to bring a little extra joy to your life. Some dogs are referred to the centre by the RSPCA after having a bad start in life while others are handed over by their former owners for a range of reasons.
Here are 8 pups that Bristol World has selected that the centre hopes can find a forever home in 2023 - can you help? For more information, visit www.bristolarc.org.uk/

5. Raven
Raven is a friendly young boy who loves running around and chasing his toys. He enjoys spending time with people and will often jump up to try and give hugs. Being a sight-hound, Raven has a very high prey drive and will need to wear a muzzle on his walk - Luckily he isn't bothered by this at all. Raven can also be dog reactive, so further training will be needed to help him tolerate other dogs when out and about. Don't let his size fool you, he is a sensitive boy when it comes to traffic and will try to chase and bark at any passing vehicles. This is why Raven is looking for a rural home, where he can let loose and be his fun-loving self. Raven's ideal day would be running around doing zoomies (in a secure field or large garden), followed by some nice cuddles and a nap - of course!
6. Clover
Clover is an active, clever girl who loves people and playing with her toys - bouncy balls are her favourite. She has an extremely high prey drive so will need to be muzzled on her walks and kept on lead. She would, however, love a good run around a secure field to burn off some of that energy. Her next family will need to continue her muzzle training, which is based around food and fun. Clover is very affectionate and loves engaging in activities such as agility training. It would be really beneficial for her to continue with this after her adoption to keep her mind and body stimulated
7. Hector
Hector is a sweet, sensitive soul who can struggle with new experiences/ environments. It takes a while for him to relax in new situations which means he can become quite upset, and even vocal or defensive at times. Hector struggles when seeing other dogs and would prefer to be exercised away from other dogs, so he can work on his behaviour around them and actually enjoy his walks. Hector also has a very high prey drive and will need to wear a muzzle for the safety of any surrounding wildlife. Hector loves doing his muzzle training, and would need to continue this practice in between his walks to maintain a positive relationship with his muzzle. He is very playful, and his favourite toys are bouncy balls that he can chase and soft toys that he can rip to shreds. Hector is a lovely boy and needs a supportive home where he feels secure and loved.
8. Rusty
This cheerful chap is Rusty - staff at BARC say he has a big heart and is hoping to find a new home in 2023. Rusty loves playing with toys, training and generally going out for walks. He is a friendly dog that loves everyone he meets, and he is a favourite with the centre’s volunteer dog walkers. Rusty does not have a lot of experience with other dogs, but he will walk past them without showing any reaction and is generally a happy-go-lucky boy!
