Bristol Animal Rescue Centre is hoping to find foster parents or forever homes for a number of loving dogs in their care.
The centre in St Philips has been supporting Bristol’s furry creatures since 1887 and, due to the cost of living crisis, has reported that more and more pups are being handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them.
From puppies to older dogs, they have a range of canine companions, hoping to bring a little extra joy to your life.
Here are 9 dogs currently available to rehome and to see more, check out the website here.
1. Guy, male, 2 years old, Greyhound
Guy is a lovely energetic boy who loves a cuddle, he can get tunnel vision towards somethings like prey animals or trying to say hello by barking at other dogs, so we think it will be safest to muzzle him for his walks. He has been making good progress since we began his muzzle training. Guy loves to do zoomies and throw his toys around, he is certainly a cheeky chappy.
2. Major, male, 1 - 3 years, Husky
Major is an adolescent husky with a big personality and a lot to say! He is very affectionate, and loves to play and spend time with people. He is in his ‘teenage’ phase, so will need some training on how to interact politely with others and not to jump up when he feels overexcited. He is looking for a home that has experience with Huskies, and knows what to expect from the breed as far as energy, grooming, and noise! Major is a fun-loving dog that is sure to bring a lot of laughs to his adopters, and in return he hopes to find the mental and physical stimulation that he needs in his new home.
3. Hector, male, 3-4 years, Lurcher
Meet Hector, a sensitive soul that is hoping to find a home that understands his fears and can help him to overcome them. Once Hector bonds with any new adopter, he will be a loyal friend for life as he is so caring and affectionate. Hector struggles with other dogs and finds interactions very stressful so he prefers to be exercised away from them. He also has a high prey drive so would need to wear a muzzle if exercising where there could be wildlife. Luckily, Hector enjoys muzzle training and wearing his muzzle as he associates it with treats and cheese. Hector really shines when he is playing with his carers. He loves balls and all soft toys that he can run around with in his mouth. His second love is food. He will work hard for food and any treats. This is a truly wonderful dog with so much potential for the right home. He would benefit from someone that is home most of the day as he gets anxious when left and worries that he has been abandoned again.
4. Penelope, female, 1 year old, crossbreed
Penelope is a fun loving, adventure seeking, affectionate young lady who, once she's got her 10 minutes of craziness out of her system, becomes super cuddly and ready for any training or activity you would like to do. She absolutely loves going out and about to explore her surroundings and she’s up for any adventure! Although she loves people, she’s a little unsure of how to interact with other dogs and have been known to bark at them. However, her training to help with this is going really well and she’d like to continue this with any new owners. She would love an active home with owners who are willing to take on her training requirements and enrich her life to the fullest.
