There’s a range of pups and older dogs looking for a family to love
Bristol Animal Rescue Centre is hoping to find foster parents or forever homes for a number of loving dogs in their care.
The centre in St Philips has been supporting Bristol’s furry creatures since 1887 and, due to the cost of living crisis, has reported that more and more pups are being handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them.
From puppies to older dogs, they have a range of canine companions, hoping to bring a little extra joy to your life.
Here are 9 dogs currently available to rehome and to see more, check out the website here.

5. Benji, male, 11 years old, Jack Russell
Benji is a lovable rogue. He looking for a experienced female only home that can handle his big personality. Sadly Benji does not like other dogs and has to wear a muzzle when out walking. He is hoping for a quiet home without too many comings and goings so that he can enjoy his retirement. He can be fearful of men so would need careful introductions with any potential visitors. Benji loves going for walks and walks nicely on a lead. He has a very affectionate nature once he gets to know you and will make a great companion for the right home.
6. Skyler, female, 1-3 years old, Belgian Malinois
Skyler is a lovely, friendly and affectionate dog who is looking for a home with experience of working breeds. She is very clever and active and will benefit from a home that can keep her occupied throughout the day. Her new family will need to be able to provide plenty of stimulation, either through sports such as agility classes, or through a commitment to regular enrichment and training. Skyler is well behaved and a pleasure to walk on her lead and enjoys playing with toys. She is food motivated which will prove positive for her training. Due to her previous living circumstances she has not been toilet trained and her new family will need to be patient and understanding of this and invest time in training her. Skyler is sure to bring plenty of joy to a loving household.
7. Blue, male, 1 yr 10 months, French Bulldog
I’m a very friendly little chap and I really like people, although I seem to get on better with ladies. I can get a little over excited if there’s a lot going on, so I would prefer to live in a calm home. I had a rough start in life, having had two broken legs, but my wonderful friends here at the rescue centre were amazing and helped me heal, however, my new human will need to have a little chat with the vet here to understand my long term needs because of this. My carers are teaching me some basic training and manners, which I’m picking up very well because when I do well I get a treat, and I LOVE food. I would need to continue my training in my new home to make sure I’m a happy, well behaved little chap. I like walks but I tire very quickly so would need restricted exercise with someone who understands my breed.
8. Maddie, female, 6-10 years, French Bulldog
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Maddie. When I arrived at BARC I was frightened and did not trust anyone, you see I had a very bad start in life but the lovely staff at BARC worked effortlessly to make me happy and it restored my faith in humans. I was given all of the medical help to make my life more comfortable including having to have both of my eyes removed, please do not feel sorry for me, I feel much better now. I soon emerged from a shell that my new found friends at the centre were not aware existed, I discovered a thing called “Sass” and I am queen of it! I soon discovered that without my eyes I can navigate around my surroundings and still cause mischief, it’s great! I love being around people as I get lots of toys, treats and attention. I am not a traditional lap dog but I absolutely love a good back scratch. Being blind I will have to be the only animal in the home and adults only as I do get startled. I need love, attention, a nice garden to explore, company most of the time and treats - plenty of treats.
