Bristol Animal Rescue Centre are hoping to find foster parents or forever homes for the loving dogs in their care. The centre has been supporting Bristol’s furry creatures since 1887 and, due to the cost of living crisis, has reported that more and more pups are being handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them.
From puppies to older dogs, they have tons of canine companions, hoping to bring a little extra joy to your life. Here are 10 we have selected, to see more visit www.bristolarc.org.uk/
5. Banksy
Banksy also had a rough start and has been passed between a few homes already. He is looking for a consistent and patient forever home, with adopters who are willing to give him the stability that he needs to thrive. Banksy loves training and is very eager to please, making him a great companion. BARC describes his cheeky personality, sure to make you laugh, and he loves nothing more than playing with his carers and having a good time. He enjoys going for walks but if you walk in an area where you may encounter off-lead dogs, he will need to wear a muzzle. Luckily, one of his favourite activities is muzzle training - he enjoys wearing a muzzle because it means he gets tasty treats. Banksy is great on the lead and will happily walk right by your side ignoring bikes, people and generally just enjoying the countryside. Banksy is a misunderstood dog with lots of potential to bring joy to the right family.
6. Diesel
Diesel is a lovely older dog, who is looking for an understanding home to support him and help him build in confidence. He enjoys affection and loves to lay between your legs for a stroke when he's in the right mood, but it may take a bit of time for him to trust new people. Diesel's favourite pastime is playing with his toys, but he can sometimes get carried away with soft toys and rip them all to pieces. Diesel walks nicely on lead, but struggles around other dogs and will therefore require a muzzle on walks. He enjoys training and works well for food while learning new things. He can get frustrated easily, so he is looking for a patient home that can give him the time and reassurance that he needs. BARC describes him as a real sweetheart who just needs to go at his own pace, and would love to find an adopter who accepts him for the oddball that he is.
7. Frank
Frank is a classic terrier in that he has a high prey drive, a good independent work ethic, and a cheeky personality. However, he is also sensitive and gets overwhelmed by the big wide world. Due to this anxiety, he is not very keen on going for walks. Frank would need a rural home, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, where he has lots of space in his own garden to explore and play. Frank is a lovely companion to people, but does not like other dogs, and would need to be muzzled if he is going any place where he may encounter other dogs. Although he is not an old dog, Frank does have an arthritic knee which is being well managed with anti-inflammatories. It doesn't stop him from wanting to play and be active, but any adopters would need to continue monitoring this. Frank is a loving, playful dog with a lot to give, and just needs to be given a chance in the right home.
8. Clover
Clover is an active, clever girl who loves people and playing with her toys - bouncy balls are her favourite. She has an extremely high prey drive so will need to be muzzled on her walks and kept on lead. She would, however, love a good run around a secure field to burn off some of that energy. Her next family will need to continue her muzzle training, which is based around food and fun. Clover is very affectionate and loves engaging in activities such as agility training. It would be really beneficial for her to continue with this after her adoption to keep her mind and body stimulated
