Armed police deployed after delivery driver is threatened by man ‘carrying firearm’

Neighbours watched in shock as a man was arrested by armed poice in Easton this afternoon. The incident happened in the Chelsea Park area at around 4.50pm.

Firearms officers were called after a report that a man carrying what appeared to be a firearm had threatened a deliver driver in the area, Avon and Somerset Police said.

Former Green Party councillor Rob Bryher captured the arrest on video. It shows a man being arrested on the floor while an armed officer points a gun down at him.

A crowd of people watching can also be seen and heard as a helicopter flies overhead.

Mr Bryher said: “Local residents [were] very concerned as you can see from the video and some were still trying to get past at the bottom of the road,”

Avon and Somerset Police Detective Inspector Will Thorpe said: “At around 4.50pm today, we received a call relating to a delivery driver being threatened in the area of Chelsea Park, Bristol, by a man carrying what appeared to be a firearm.

“Due to the nature of the information received, firearms officers and the National Police Air Service were deployed to the scene.

“A man has been arrested in connection with this incident.

“We’ll now be carrying out additional patrols of the area to reassure residents while enquiries continue at the scene.”
