13 photos of the Bristol shopping street undergoing huge change after years of neglect

As new businesses open and old shops close, there is change in the air

Walk through East Street in Bedminster and there is change in the air. After years of neglect, this once busy shopping street in south Bristol is showing signs of coming back to life.

The cranes that dominate the skyline around East Street are the sure sign that new developments are well underway as student accommodation blocks and private apartments start to emerge on previously unloved spots.

But for every shiny new business to open on East Street, there are still the old pubs, cafes and shops. There may now be artisan stores and trendy cafes but you can still visit an old-school boozer for a cheap pint or a timeless greasy spoon for a Full English.

Here are 13 photos of East Street, an arterial shopping street that’s undergoing huge change but still proudly clinging on to its historic past.
